A Living Room Chat with Lace where she answers queries about how she has been since the death of her mother, and reflections on Thursday’s memorial service, along with a heartfelt appreciation and thank you to the community and friends of Lace on Race.
*Edited to add this:*
I just watched the live.
And as I was watching it, something occurred to me that perhaps I should have had this thought included in the video, but it was extemporaneous so even if I didn’t say it in the actual video, I can say it now.
Here is the lesson oh, one of many from my mother.
*Not everyone is going to be with you at your Finish Line.*
Most will indeed Fall Away. Be ready.
That is not an incitement of you or of your walk or of your Praxis.
In fact, it can often be a validation and a reinforcement of a rigorous life example.
It also is not an indictment of the time that you spent with them.
I regret *not one moment* that I spent with Holly.
Not one moment that I poured myself into her.
I regret not one moment of the women I walked with who did not go the distance.
And, trust me when I tell you that I regret not one moment that I have been spending with Daniel Werner, or Catherine Norad, or anyone else who loves to lob pipe bombs.
People need to see you walk.
And it’s easy when it’s easy.
It’s who you are when you are in The Crucible that makes or breaks an example.
Had I been fixating on their definition of success or of efficacy, it would have made all of it transactional and not at all relational.
So.
No sense of entitlement. No promise of payoff.
If someone refuses your offer of relational orange spice tea you set the table for the next one and you keep the water boiling.
But you don’t remove the place setting of those who refuse you, or even those who slap the proffered cup of tea from your hand and let it crash into shards on the concrete.
Instead be always ready to receive who returns with open arms and open heart and, crucially, with a fresh unbroken mug.
Nothing made with Hesed heart at the core is ever a waste.
Are you picking up what I’m putting down?
