In Memorium – Remembering Lace Watkins

Celebrating Her Life

Lace Watkins’ work for racial equity and the betterment of our world began long before her founding of Lace on Race.  Learn more about Lace and remember her life and legacy.

A memorial service for Lace was held with her faith community at Vista La Mesa Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Saturday, March 25, 2023. For those who were not able to attend, this link is provided to a video of the service.

Later that Saturday, members of the board for the Lace on Race Center for Racial Equity gathered with some of Lace’s friends in her San Diego community, as well as those across the world who were able to join us on line. A photo gallery and recording of our celebration of her life is available here.

Preserving Her Legacy

We have established the Lace Watkins Memorial Fund to help Lace’s family pay for her funeral expenses. Any money collected above and beyond what is needed for those will be used to establish a scholarship in Lace’s name. Contributions to that fund can be made to paypal.me/LaceonRace, and may be earmarked for the fund if desired in the transaction comments.

Your Remembrances

We are collecting your tributes, your testimonies, your memories, and your love for Lace. Please share with us here. You are an integral part of the legacy Lace leaves: a community in right relationship, dedicated to promoting racial equity and lessening and mitigating the harm perpetuated against Black and Brown people by white people and white supremacy.
