I believe in what we do here. I believe in the efficacy of approaching racial equity through relational ethics, in learning from the ground up how we humans can relate to each other rightly, both as a way of guiding me through sloughing off my white supremacy and connecting with others as they do the same, to support, to challenge, to help scrub the crust away.

So I engage each month to keep my skin in the game. I don’t have the melanin in my skin that puts my actual skin at risk, but I know that my money is one way I hold value and privilege in our white supremacist system, so my money is something I put here as part of my praxis, for the health of a community and organization doing work I value.

Knowing just how much you all put in the background working to create this space is part of what motivates me to take an active part engaging as a walker here, staying and planting, wanting to see the orchard grow in a tangible way. I have financially engaged for September and am so thankful to be here. To echo Laura above, I too, believe in what we do here, new things in new ways!

We do a lot behind the scenes, but the real work is here – front of house – where we practice and engage so that we can get better at following the North Star.

I have engaged in September and will continue to engage. It is part of my praxis to do so!

Committing to sustaining this space is an important step in my walking here and my racial justice praxis. I remember filling out the sustainer in training form in order to say what I was going to do and then engaging financially every month to live out what I said and be the person I want to be. I’ve engaged financially for September and will continue to do so each month without being asked.

I had the honor of asking the questions in the ‘Ask me Anything?’ and since I became engaged with Lace On Race, reading all of the pinned posts, with the intention of responding and engaging with two other community members, I have thought of questions I had, but always been too shy to ask. So, here’s one: what gives you hope right now?
