Saturday Special: White Women and Oppression Part 1
In the introduction of this series, I mentioned that the article stressed that white supremacy, and the economic benefits that flow from it, could not have happened without the approbation and collusion of white women.
The last part, where she pivots to the present day, is crucial. I won’t copy and paste the highlights, because it’s all important. Be sure to read to the end, and be sure to do your best to not just acknowledge the general truth of the author’s assertions, but to go to the heart of the cookie and find where it has been and or is true *for you*. Because it is. Find your nuggets of truth and historical and present day acting out of what the author describes, and really think about what it would take to see with clarity, interrogate both yourself and the systems that buttress you, and how (and whether) you have the integrity and fortitude to root them out.
