Aspirations

Our founder, Lace Watkins, died in February of 2023. The Board of Directors for the Lace on Race Center for Racial Equity are committed to preserving her legacy and her writings. Here are the ways we hope to accomplish this goal.

Continuing Her Work

The community Lace built and the lessons she taught are not gone. We are committed to keeping the Facebook page alive, to finding and supporting Community Partners, to perpetuating the Lace on Race Mental and Emotional Health Fund, and to walking together in support and accountability as we strive to lessen and mitigate harm to Black and Brown people, perpetuated by white people and white supremacy.

Spreading Her Words

Lace’s approach to racial justice work was uniquely focused on the relational, and on combatting racism and white supremacy as the addiction it is. We founded and continue our organization because we believe this approach is of profound value, and we would like to develop a curriculum based on Lace’s writings that will allow us to spread these crucial lessons farther every year.

Publishing her Wisdom

The writings Lace has left are an enduring tribute to her original mind and deeply loving spirit. They are as beautiful as they are instructive. We would like to collect and publish her essays as a book so that the truths she revealed can reside in libraries and living rooms, as well as in our hearts.

Helping Others in Her Name

We established the Lace Watkins Memorial Fund to help Lace’s family pay for her funeral expenses. We are continuing that fund with the intention to establish a scholarship of some sort in Lace’s name.

Contributions to the Lace on Race Center for Racial Equity in support of these aspirations can be made through paypal.me/LaceonRace.
