We Need You!

We have been talking about all the things we will be doing in the year 2020.

Here are a few items we can’t wait to tackle:

  • Going deep into the history of IQ testing, and intelligence in general, using the Radiolab series ‘Q’ as kindling
  • Creating, implementing, and offering to others a truly sustainable mentoring program that will have implications not only for our work, but for rich and enduring friendships
  • Ongoing Lace on The Race segments, divided into regions and issues, where you all on the ground can see where the hot issues are and how they relate to racial justice
  • A focus on Critical Analysis, which we have done informally by critiquing ads and memes; how we approach and frame is so vitally important
  • Confronting the ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience study) and trauma in heneral; both individual and collective trauma, and how it impacts our work
  • Parenting In Lumpy Crossings–a lot of people have started this walk because they want to inculcate values of racial justice in their children. Let’s focus on that!
  • Writing and delivering specialized content for discrete groups

In addition, I and the amazing Lace on Race staff will be combing through the last two years to pick up strands and begin to re-stitch series and discussions that need to be finished or revisited, like the Letters to Cohorts series; The Four Elements; Relational Ethics with Terry Real and Sue Johnson; finishing up the Hanukkah and Kwaanza series, even though the series is over; there is still much to glean, and more.

In addition, our moving to a magazine format (Education in February!) will keep us relevant and focused on one featured topic, that will allow us depth and breadth even as we do all of our other things!

And we so want to do all the things.

So we need you! Yes, you. Stop looking so surprised!

What I have described above would be overwhelming with a staff of 50. We don’t have a tenth of that. There is no way we can do this without you.

Like we said before Holiday Break, we will be looking for others of you to walk with us in enhanced ways, in one or more areas. Below, feel free to offer yourself or nominate someone whose walk you especially admire.

We have our plates full, and we love it. We need you too. In five days we will be at our two year mark! There is sooooo much more to do, and love, and be! I can’t wait to see how a team of enhanced walkers, dedicated to the long haul with relentless, resilient and reliable faithfulness will impact 2020 and beyond!

With love, and excited anticipation,

Your Lace

Like Deb, I added info about my skillset in the new sustainer form. I’m willing to be stretched outside my comfort zone but I admit I’m not a visionary so while all the above is exciting to me – I don’t immediately see exactly where I plug in. I’m ‘support staff’. It’s what I do in my job and it’s what I’m good at. I can fill out forms, research requirements, create and edit lists, etc. all day long. I don’t know if that really fills a need though. And I’m willing to try things that I don’t already know I do well.

Wahoo. This is so exciting. When I filled out the new Sustainer form, I mentioned ways I would like to help — fully recognizing that involvement would be in addition to my ongoing commitment to my internal work and post engagement.
