Woke White person: I don’t! Not all of us are like that!

IT’S A TRAP! Don’t fall into the pit of self righteousness! This is supremacy whispering to you. Telling you that you are better than those other white people who are clearly racist. If a person of color makes a statement about White people, and your first inclination is to negate their experience and NotAll the scenario – don’t say anything yet. Keep reading. Understand that even if you are not the White person in this scenario this time – you have been that white person in some scenario at some point, and you can always improve your accomplicship. If you are more worried about virtue signaling how YOU don’t do X, than you are about holding space for the person revealing their experience, it’s OK. Honest. We are all selfish people by nature. But sit with your reactions, don’t share them. I tell my kids all the time that not every thought you think needs to be shared. You can sit with your feelings, and then you can be an accomplice to people of color by amplifying their views, voices, and experiences. If they aren’t talking about you, then you don’t need to internalize it and make it about you.
