RE: Reparations and Restitution

Nowadays, it’s pretty much the standard–actually it’s become perversely fashionable– for at least a subset of white people to acknowledge that at least part of their wealth is plunder. It’s also the standard to acknowledge the clench.

But you can’t wring your hands and idle in that lane forever, which is what white people do, and have done.

Your turmoil over the real and unarguable plunder is not where the actual pain lies. The pain resides in the lives of the marginalized.

Drawing out to an interminable level the internal struggle and concomitant feels on this issue is for the aggrandizement of white people.

Not saying that reflection and acknowledgement; even some grief and anger (just make sure that anger is not displaced onto the wrong people) are not warranted.

But to choose to get stuck in that tape loop, expending all the energy on not the rightness and validity of the issue, but of what your ultimate response to it will be, is privilege unfiltered, and also does nothing for the people you say you stand for.

This issue is not nearly as hard as white people make it out to be. It’s nothing more or less than a stalling tactic.
