What we just wrote to On Being:
Hello. We at Lace on Race have been doing what I call the Month of Relational Ethics; we have been using your audio and transcripts to jumpstart conversation, which has been thoughtful and robust. So far, we have used Claudia Rankine and Alain de Botton; for Day 3, we will be using Padraig O Tuama. We are also actively looking for more of your audio to supplement our work.
One of the things we are having community members do is not only to listen to the guest, but also have their gain turned to the interaction between host and guest. The conversation there has also been illuminating.
In talking about race, we are talking about both the text, the words, and also looking for the ‘white spaces’ between the words; we are talking about relationship and congruence, and we are doing it in a quietly fraught environment. We strive to do better, and using your work as engaging case studies have been helpful. As we look at engagements between and across gender and race, we are finding ways to buttress our own overall praxis.
You are welcome, encouraged even, to see the work we are doing around your work. We are currently a Facebook page, but will be migrating to our new website soon. You can find us at facebook.com/laceonrace
Thank you for years of thought and connection. Your work deeply informs my own, then and now.
