More truth from DiDi.
She is getting at something important, and I want you to zero in on *that* instead of getting fixated on Hilary.
There is an unfortunate mind trick that white people use on themselves–that something bad that happens slowly is better than something that happens quickly. Or that something they observe is lesser than something that they experience. And that they get to determine what all those terms mean, and that they reserve the right to toggle back and forth.
I really want you to acknowledge this for the privilege that it is.
This is about empathy, but not in the flattened, domesticated way it is used these days.
Consider all of this, reflect, and comment. How has this played out in your life? Not ‘Has this’; because it has.
So–how has your ability to spectate affected your praxis? Do you see any parallels in this principle and why we discourage spectatorship in this space? How can that be generalized outward?
Comments only. No reacts.
