August is quickly coming to a close. If we are being honest, August has been a quieter month in regards to engagement.

As a reminder, Financial Engagement goes hand-in-hand with actual engagement. If you have not engaged with the two new Relational Ethics Series posts, you need to do so.

Part of our practice here at Lace on Race is supporting communities outside of our own. We seek out different organizations and individuals each month with the expectation that our community here will support them, and do so well. We have an accountability to lift up those we partner with each month.

Our August feature organization is Bridge of Love Across the Border. Bridge of Love Across the Border is made up of 100% Volunteer Grass Roots Human Rights Activists who accept and send donations across the border to support migrants/refugees seeking refuge and asylum. *A personal note from Lace:

I just want to thank you all for the incredible work that we have been doing, particularly these last two weeks with the relational ethic posts and doing such deep work. For those of you who have truly been walking and engaging, and leaning in on every axis in terms of post, in terms of financial engagement, in terms of your interior work, I am confident that you are seeing changes however small.

I hesitate to say this, because it seems so self-serving, and I don’t want to take away from the Partnerships that I am absolutely committed to continuing.

The truth is though, is that there has not been an increase in overall Financial engagement; about half of the engagement of people already do is redirected to our partners.

That’s great, but that also means that our community has seen financial engagement cut by half.

In all honesty I don’t know what to do.

We need both; we need our community to step up for our partners *and* we need our community to step up for lace on Race as well.

There is no way I can do this work in the way I do it and take on another part-time job. I simply cannot.

And these last not just three months but 6 months have seen a steady decline, even as engagement has gone up and we have increased our community by over 50%.

So people are coming, they are reading, they are engaging– what they are not doing necessarily is helping to continue this space. I am making a very direct ask that you do so.

I really want to keep this space alive and thriving for a very long time and it can only happen with you.
