We are going to talk about this here too.

Today is the day for tough talk.

Y’all are *full* of piss and vinegar and grandiosity, till it actually comes to putting your skin in the game.

The larger discussion to come will talk about all spaces, but I do want to say this here.

Even with this influx, and the larger workload for myself, my staff, and leaders in training in Sustainer Circle, we know that 98 percent of you won’t respond to any given Ask; which is why I have not had the emotional bandwidth to even think about doing it this week.

The last few days have been crazy. And obviously, there is a plurality of you who want this space to continue. This is where you need to make your engagement with this space match your poetic rhetoric.

Today, the proportions of Kind to Candor are inverted somewhat. Between this space and my personal page, it has been…..interesting.

This is a needed conversation. Be ready to have it.

ok, y’all. lovingly. i do not want this to become a thread where everyone justifies their actions and lets me know how wrong i am about them. I I *certainly* will not want this dynamic in the larger piece, where i *will* be talking about the larger issue and making the case for the tithe and the proportional tithe.
I get that this is is an activating issue (for we writers/thinkers/activists more than for you all actually, though you wouldn’t think so), and i know there is a shit ton of clench and defensiveness.
But.
I am working 100 hour weeks. This is a crucial, perhaps watershed moment in time right now and every brown and black person who are somehow working their asses off are somehow finding superhuman reserves to do even more; sometimes double what they were doing before. and are doing it on fraying shoestrings.
Hear this.
*WE DON’T HAVE THE EMOTIONAL OR PHYSICAL OR MENTAL BANDWIDTH TO TAKE CARE OF YOU ALL* while we are trying to save and succor our people.
You will have to carry your own buckets; carry your own tension.
Yes money is fraught. The way Black and brown spaces have to ask for it–the self funding model–is so shitty. And unstable. And more than a little bit humiliating.
Y’all have the power here. Yes, we know this. And you know it. And we know you know it. And you know we know you know it.
So please, live out your convictions. Or not. But don’t ask us to hold your bucket while you decide how or if you are going to do it.
