Two points.

The word performative has been morphed so much and suffered from so much Mission drift that it ceases to have any real meaning anymore.

These days it’s just a term that white people hurl at each other so that they can win the online battle Wars.

I prefer the term *disingenuous*.

It’s a lot more descriptive of what white people actually do when they do the easy stuff and ignore the things that would actually change their lives, and crucially, the lives of people with whom they say they stand.

I would also mention the economic piece. White people like to do all the things except when it comes to actual transfer of wealth and income. Even in the small and yes, performative (read *disingenuous*)ways white people almost always do it.

$5 here $10 there.

That actually makes for a really big clench with white people!

It’s fun to watch.

Considering that at least 20 to 50% of your income is directly on the backs of black and brown people both historically and in the Here and Now.

Not talking about the economic piece with white people is a clench in itself.
