No reacts.

Without an acknowledgement of, and a subsequent analysis , and a final and thorough repudiation of the racial dynamics that drive white working-class and poor people (as well as their more affluent brethren) to vote against their own self-interest, every analysis of Rust Belt, Appalachian, and Southern voting patterns among white people will be deficient.

There are all too many white people who are willing to impale themselves on the pillar of white supremacy.

This is what needs to be discussed.

It is unfortunate that the author of this piece managed to mention the fact that 78% of Kentucky voted for Trump.

That’s not quite true. There are black people in Kentucky, they are not in that cohort, nor would most of the people of color in that state that he also mentioned have voted GOP.

The number of white people who voted for Trump is actually higher if you carve the marginalized cohort out.

That is the conversation.White people as a group, not just the people that voted for Trump, but those who stood idly by for 4 years I did not do the work to move the needle in either Kentucky or any of other states over which white progressives wring their hands, have the same work to do they had in 2016, and that is not to feel sorry for themselves and it is not to feel beleaguered when people hold them to task.

It is to redouble their efforts.

And the first action they should take is to take a hard look at the last 65 years.

The answers are in there, white people need to find them, acknowledge them deeply, and work to confront them.
