I have been seeing a lot of my videos pop up on my YouTube feed lately, and this one popped up tonight.

It was right on time.

Over the last week, I have had more than a few lumpy crossings that had to do with unilateralism and who I am going to be regardless of who someone is to me.

I have been looking to find people who are willing to begin the process of deeper connection to the organization and who would be willing to follow our ethos and be mentored in the principles that we’ve developed here; that we have co-created in this community. Frankly, it’s been slow going. There are some things that I can teach. There are some things I simply cannot; not without at least a mustard seed that can be built upon. But I am undaunted. I will continue to look, but I will also never compromise.

So then. I have had variants of the talk you will see here with more than a few people, and I have said pretty much what I’m saying here in this video.

Because this came hard on the heels of the debacle with my intern circa 2021, you’ll get some references to that, but that actually is not what the post is about.

As we talk more and more about ethics, contractual ethics in particular, this principle needs to be internalized.

Unilateralism is my promise to you.

That I will be faithful and stay faithful to you and with you, firmly in ethos and firmly with the North Star in mind.

*That is regardless of how you choose to relate to me.*

And as you’ll see in the video, that leaves me quite vulnerable.

But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The only way to model unilateralism and to model applied relational ethics is to live it out loud.

I hesitate to say that I am proud of how I have handled myself and proud of the choices I make because saying that I’m proud feels like one baby step away from being prideful and I don’t want to go there, but I stand by the choices that I have made over these months, and will, with the grace of the universe continue to make.

For those of you who walk with me and have found that my steps have been faithful, thank you for your affirmation and for your continued support.

For those of you who are unsure or agnostic or even hostile, or for those who don’t know some of the genesis of the principles that I espouse, this is a good starting point.

It’s also a Manifesto of sorts.
