I think I got whiplash from the breakneck speed at which we got to Basic Budget. We actually got there on Wednesday.
Last night, we began The Pivot.
We are going to do this every month there is still a crisis, every month there are miles of cars at food lines; every month there is a need.
We are still focusing on the three orgs we featured last month; if anything, their work is even more crucial, and funding for them is even more vital
Rent Fund for Undocumented People- COVID19 in Seattle:
Providing rent assistance to undocumented people in Seattle affected by the pandemic.
Reached over $36k of their $50k goal.
Requests for assistance currently closed until they receive more funding (369 requests in place).
Bridge of Love Across the Border:
100% Volunteer Grass Roots Human Rights Activists who accept and send donations across the border to support migrants/refugees seeking refuge and asylum.
COVID-19 Mutual Aid Fund for LGBTQI+BIPOC:
Providing support for queer, transgender, non-binary and/or intersex Black, Indigenous folks and other LGBTQI+ people of color (QTIBIPOC folks) due to particular vulnerabilities in these communities, exposed by COVID-19.
Reached over $175k of a $250k goal.
Philadelphia Community Bail Fund (PCBF) : They demand immediate decarceration of jails, prisons and immigrant detention centers across PA. After hearing that guards had an entire unit of women at Riverside Correctional Facility (RCF) write GOODBYE LETTERS to their loved ones, PCBF is seeking donations to their emergency fund. Based on conversations with women trapped in cages now, COVID-19 is spreading much faster than what is being reported. Judges will NOT release anyone who tests positive, instead will “quarantine” them in solitary confinement to die.
As well as our original three featured organizations, we have included an East Coast effort for mamas in jail. We know that jails are rife with the virus; just yesterday it was reported that the jail in Chicago now has he highest body count in the nation. Not highest per capita. NO. The highest. There was an urgent appeal, so we decided to contribute out of Lace on Race reserve. We will include it in our org partners if you would like to contribute as well.
We need to look at all of this, and we will, We will discuss policy and the macro.
But the micro is so important too. Local grassroots work, pushing the envelope of praxis.
Thank you for keeping Lace on Race sustainable. Our footing is solid this month. What a gift to be able to focus outward; to be nimble; to do rapid response. What a gift to know our hands will succor.
