February Thank You

This should have been written and published yesterday, but life, and really funky threads got in the way. My entire to do list got hijacked by two really funky engagements.

That’s not quite true. As in our lives together here, the work I thought I needed to do was supplanted by the work I am called to do: to enter into deep, and, and as happens sometimes, difficult engagements with people whose limps were bigger than most. I need to remember that. The list on the back of the receipt is not the work. Relationships, however fraught and ragged and lumpy–this is The Work.

This month has been gratifying. And lumpy. And productive. And frustrating, with hastily scrawled to do’s on the back of a grocery bill. And hair pulling. And amazing. And tedious. And miraculous.

And you helped do it all.

With exactly two Asks. Worth saying again. Only two Asks. I almost didn’t believe Marlise.

No begging, no pathos. You all really came through.

For the first time since October, when we first set a Basic Budget, we met our goal, with even a bit to spare. This is a big deal, which deserves the deepest of thanks.

I can’t believe I get to–not have to, but *get to*–do this work. I can’t believe I get to meet each of you by the tree. I can’t believe you meet me there faithfully.

But you did, and do. Going into this month with a Budget met is so affirming. Honoring Marlise and Claire and contributors tangibly is soul filling. Knowing we will be around for another month is cause for rejoicing.

Knowing I get to share more, engage more, encourage more, think more, research more is what wakes me up. Sometimes it is so hard to sleep, with all I still need and want to do here.

More. I want more. For you, for us, for all whom we have yet to touch and walk with. The road is wide. There is room for all of us.

Later today, because it is indeed the first of the month, and I have learned that it is to everyone’s benefit for me to obey Marlise, I will indeed drop an Ask. A straightforward, eye to eye Ask.

Maybe we’ll be able to do it with just one this month.

May we never stop walking.
