The first thing this reminds me of is a conversation with a loved one around Thanksgiving, when we were talking about the truth about Columbus and contrasting that with what we were taught in school.

My loved one finally said “I prefer to just go with what I was taught in school.”

I mean, I get it. The lies about our history are definitely more palatable for white folks than the truth. But I had never had anyone tell me so bluntly that they preferred to stick with the lies.
