Community, Lace is providing a service.

It causes harm to Lace to have to ask to be paid for that service. Even more harm to ask to be paid a living wage for that service.

She provides content. She engages. Frankly, she curates a ton of the content for us! I don’t have the skillset to do that! She is a historian, librarian, teacher, counselor, mentor, coach, community supporter and more roles that I am not thinking of just this second all rolled into one.

It is abhorrent to me that Lace has to ask to be supported in this work. I am nervous to use this word, but I imagine that it feels humiliating to have to ask to be supported in this work. Especially over and over and over again.

Last month, LoR received less than half the planned budgetary contribution. Lace, the interim Executive Director, still recommended and LoR still chose to serve community partnerships first.

So, this month, let’s do something different by engaging financially BEFORE she exhorts us to. I have. If you walk here in community, led by our shared North Star ethos, you should too.
