We have an actual, honest to goodness, legal system that is intended to assess cases and levy appropriate judgement and potentially punishment. It is deeply flawed in and of itself, but it exists. When he was shot, Jacob Blake had neither just broken a law, nor was he under prosecution for breaking a law. He had not ever been accused of the crime many are now alleging he was convicted of. If you’re going to deflect, at least get it right. But even his record is not why he was shot. He was shot because the cops were more afraid of an unarmed black man than they would be of an armed white one. The truth of this is made evident by the same department’s behavior toward Kyle Rittenhouse. That is both implicit bias and systemic racism, and if you still think that fear, bias, and racism is isolated and patchy, and not widespread and pervasive in our country, you have not been paying attention.
