Lace on Race Update August 21, 2020

Another month of walking!

From the smooth terrain of abiding and cleaving together, to 89 Chromebooks in the hands of impacted children, to (at this writing) over $3,700 dollars to our partner at DLP.

We have also navigated some very lumpy crossings. The actions we have taken to hold The Christian Left to accountability and restoration have not been easy; not easy to discern; nor easy to implement. It has affected our community as many of us were faced with choicepoints as we made our own discernments as to what right action looked like for each of us.

At the end of the day about 200 walkers decided that their dedication to our North Star compelled and demanded them to act, and after intellectual rigor, using the template of the Six Steps to Ethical Action, determined that they would act in accordance to their own stated values as well as to the community ethos of Lace on Race itself.

There will be other actions, both here in this online lab, as well as in our individual lives. We are here to learn to become discerning, reflexive, and to act with all deliberate speed toward our fixed North Star.

I am honored that you walk with us. There are no strangers; no lurkers. If you are walking with us you walk with the same shared nurture and the same responsibilities of us all.

I cannot wait to meet you and abide with you in meaningful and durable ways.

All my very best,

Your Lace

Lace and her Team would like to welcome new walkers! We hope you find your time here challenging, exhorting, and that you find durable and reliable community here, all in the service of the North Star of Lace on Race which is to lessen and mitigate the harm endured by Black and brown people perpetuated by white people. Be sure to read the Guidelines; they will help you to navigate this space best. We also want to welcome our newest Sustainer Circle members. Sustainer Circle members don’t get more; more is expected of them, as they lean into enhanced roles in the LoR community.

Part of adding more transparency and ease as you walk with the Lace on Race community is our desire to post a regular update. Each update will highlight the prominent posts that are important for you to read and engage with, the status of budget for the month, and our featured organizations for the month.

A sustainer is someone who has been consistently in the Lace on Race Community for 6 months or more and is committed to financially sustaining this space and regularly engaging in the community. Our Sustainer Circle is not about perks or access to exclusive content. Rather, it is about another level of accountability and responsibility. As a Sustainer, you have spent time in the community, practice Kind Candor, and are ready to walk consistently with fellow community members.
