Lace on Race Rocks!

Let’s bring back one of my favorite features!

For a brief period when we began Lace on Race, I had a feature where I shared music that mattered to me and informed my ethos and praxis.

Some of them are quite inspirational, some are motivating, some just get you out of your chair.

This one is all three. I remember the first time I ever heard it; 1975 when I was all of 12.

The vibe and the message was almost completely wasted on me then, but now, whenever someone wants to count me out or make me concede a righteous stance, or wants me to stumble in my walking, I think of this song, and I remember who I am and why I walk.

It’s particularly relevant considering the events of the last two weeks, the last week in particular.

So take heart, and chair dance. We ain’t giving up *no* ground.

Selah.

Keep walking.

(Yes, that’s the original cover art. I remember my sister and I getting this album as a gift for Christmas; we almost had to give it back due the racy (for 1975) album cover. I think I remember the compromise; we kept the album, but without the cover. Heh.)
