Hey y’all:

There are a lot of pretty much the same arguments being made by the hordes of people who are coming in here by the Christian Left. None of them are particularly original and the redundancy is grating on me so I am going to do a series today where I am consolidating some of the comments and sharing my answers here.

The first one I’m going to do in this way is the query that keeps coming up over and over and various permutations.

It’s this:

Why are you being so critical of progressive Christianity? Shouldn’t you be focusing your attention on the Christian right?

I feel that Progressive Christianity should absolutely be held to *more* account and scrutiny, not less.

We already know the brand of Christianity that the Christian right professes is almost completely divorced from authentic Walking With Jesus.

Progressive and liberal Christians however, should be coming closer to that standard.

It is an act of love to call out fellow followers of Jesus to better and more durable Praxis.

The fact of the matter is is that the far right is pretty much a dying elephant.

It’s a different, and vastly more crucial game for those who consider themselves liberal or progressive.

What we do with Progressive Christianity, whether it be in Mainline churches or an online spaces or and house churches should be something that moves the needle in real ways going forward not just in the here and now but 30 or 40 years down the road!

It is a big deal.

And when Progressive Christianity is infected (and I use that word with intention) by exactly the tactics and strategies that the Christian right uses, they absolutely should be called out.

Particularly when it’s white Progressive Christianity that tries to have the best of both worlds.

The Primacy and white superiority and white supremacy of Conservative white Christianity, along with selectively appropriating both the Theology and the practices of indigenous black and brown theology.

Which is exactly what we’re seeing here. Both in the space in the here and now, and with the masks a week ago. It was wrong then. It’s wrong now.

I’m not only have a right to call it out. I have an absolute responsibility to speak to it.
