On Jim Golden Part One

So, Jim Golden happened.

Racial equity educator Jim Golden happened.

Welp.

Ya, we’re gonna talk about it. But before we talk about Jim, I have a query for you all.

Jim Golden is going to be a catalyst for good. Whether he means to or not.

Jim Golden is going to be the person who, more than anyone else, is going to take our collective walking in community to the next level.

Don’t worry. We’ll get to Enabling Kate soon enough.

But for now, I want us to focus on ourselves for a minute.

Do go and find the thread–It’s embedded in the well written Post by Mr. Golden. Read it for max gain. I will drop the link in the comments; if it doesn’t work we will have to wait for Marlise or Danielle to help me! (You would think my righteous fury would turbo charge my formatting skills, but, sadly, nope)

Then come back here and respond to this prompt by Julie Conason, which absolutely stopped me in my tracks:

“How deep do you need to scratch my ‘white ally’ veneer before my white supremacy shows through?”

And then this one from me:

How ready, willing and able are you (capacity, agency, and volition) to rip of that veneer by any means necessary in the service of lessening and mitigating the harm endured by Black and Brown people perpetuated (and enabled and encouraged) by white people?

Answer both queries. Be ruthless and relentless with yourself.

I know the temptation will be to compare yourselves with Jim and Kate and decide that you’re ‘not that bad’.

Hear this: this isn’t a spectrum. Not a ratio. It’s there in you, and yes, you should be concerned that there is more Jim and Kate in you than you think.
