I was so pleasantly surprised when this article took the pivot toward race that it did, and when it really lingered on it in a way that felt appropriate to me, I realized how uncommon it is to see articles giving a proper focus to race in the pandemic. It seemed particularly noteworthy in that this article isn’t very long, and usually this level of discussion (a few paragraphs) is reserved for Very Long Pieces.

I was so impressed and really marveling at what great progress media have made to see this in Rolling Stone, and then I realized the author is black.

And that, friends, is why representation matters. There are some really important points here, but I’ll keynote a few for you:

-using guns to avoid a discussion is nothing new
-only white people can get away with it
-80% of covid hospital beds in GA are filled by black people
