I am o so tired, but I need to address this squarely.
Having Black lovers or spouses, and or having Black children is not an antidote to anti Blackness.
Nor is it at all a guarantee that there will be any level of racial analysis and acknowledgement of racial dynamics nor will there automatically be a commitment to confronting and dismantling racism and white supremacy.
In fact, all too often, white people feel that they, because of their proximity to Blackness, have done all the work they need to do.
And that is dangerous. Both to Black people as a whole, but also to those partners, and crucially, to those children who are subject to that lack of self awareness and self scrutiny.
Being in relationship, of any sort, with a Black person means rigorous self examination; and sadly, the opposite is all too often shown, in attitude, behavior, assumptions, tropes, and schemas.
Rubbing shoulders, or any other given body part, with a Black person absolves nothing.
Discuss.
