It’s officially my birthday now!

Read, internalize, reflect, and hopefully, Act!

The best birthday gift I could possibly receive from you all, individually and collectively, is the gift of sustainability, freedom to write and research and engage and speak, and partnering with me to continue to advance the mission, ethos, message, and method of Lace on Race. There is o so much more to do. And being affirmed in this work in tangible ways so I can continue to go full bore is a birthday gift I can and will savor every day.

++++++++++

It’s my birthday on Monday, and I am reaching back to a piece I wrote about this time last year.

I stand by it. All of the issues I detailed last year are still true; there is no Facebook mechanism to fund grassroots initiatives, and that still leaves the groups and individuals doing the heavy lifting for social justice with nothing.

I will be doing a post detailing organizations off of Facebook’s radar.

But this year, I am going to also do something different.

This year I am going to feature myself. Loud and proud.

About a year and a half ago, I launched Lace on Race. Last year, I hesitated to highlight either myself or my initiative. Since then, we have been become a voice that has grown in both reach and depth.

We do good work. And Facebook will never support us. Quite the opposite; because of the nature of our call, we are suppressed. That has not stopped us. We do work that has had staying power, and even has amassed a small amount of influence.

This year, for my birthday, I am candidly and consciously asking my friends and family and followers on my personal page to support the work which is my life’s Magnum Opus. Most of you know of it, at least glancingly; some of you are part of the community.

This is work I want to do for the rest of my life. This is work I do well. And it is work I am proud of.

What a blessing it would be for me to receive the blessing of your support.

So no, no Facebook appeal. Just me, walking in the best way I know how.

I don’t need a drink, or earrings, or dinner. I need the people who know and love me best to really see me, and lay their hands on this work.

Happy 56th to me! Thank you for loving me. I am putting out this link in faith, and in gratitude. I never thought the universe would allow me to do the work I have been graced to do.

Help me to do it.
