Lace on Race Pre Ask

Our faithful admins will be posting up the last Ask of the month.

You have another last opportunity to engage with our Monthly Partners, and I hope you will do so.

We have taken, in the last quarter, a calculated risk. We believe that it is as important to celebrate and support those individuals and orgs in the community who are doing good work, so we have given you opportunities to do so.

You have come through, in modest yet real ways, and I have confidence that as we continue this practice, that more of you will engage.

The risk has been to our own sustainability. While I am proud of and grateful to those of you who did support our Partners, and urge you to continue, still we have experienced a real slump in our own support and engagement.

I am not afraid of the risk. I am proud that we support others. I try so very hard not to be self serving. But engagement with LoR itself has fallen about 50%. As we gain new supporters, (and sustainers) that should even out, but for now, it is a bit difficult, even as, with increased programming on and off line, my hours of active engagement, not counting research and offline duties have increased.

I have taken a part time consultancy. So far, it has not affected my work here. But it is a concession to the challenges in getting readers and community members to support this space. This makes for three jobs, two of which are full time. I hope you all can find a way to make this less necessary.

Also this–the exciting possibility we have been obliquely speaking of (will detail for sustainers in the monthly newsletter) makes for more work. We are being observed for efficacy and durability, and while financial engagement is not the only, or even the most important factor, still it is an element that warrants consideration from whose who may be observing our community.

All of this to say that when the Ask is posted this evening, please consider engagement.

If you have not yet engaged, this is your time! If you have partnered with us in previous months, please consider a repeat engagement.

And for Sustainers–thank you!–I will lay this out in detail in the Newsletter, but your continued reliable support is so necessary, both for optics and for program. If you have not yet fulfilled your June commitment to the community of Lace on Race, I urge you to do so.

Back to work. Excitement is in the works for July!
