I want to highlight this post by our featured individual for the month of June for two reasons.

The first reason is that it is imperative that all of us are able to put legs on our convictions with effectiveness and with competence.

Knowing and being able to articulate quickly in a moment of crisis what Ms Jones is relaying to us is crucial.

We’re going to talk a lot about what practice means.

Particularly in these times, when quick mobilization is necessary and there is no time to dally and tarry thinking about appropriate response.

A lot of the questions I’ve been asking you lately have been pointing to this very thing.

The sense of paralysis and indecision and panic that comes up can be mitigated with planning, interior planning.

Much like the visualisations that athletes do when preparing for a game.

A lot of you talk about not knowing what to do, and that can translate into inaction on the ground.

That is why having a resilient core and doing the internal work that we are doing is so crucial.

I see these kinds of responses when people are talking about responding to someone on Facebook. Again- this is the dress rehearsal.

You are learning how to be more effective out in the world.

This present moment, when we are fighting on behalf of the people we say we stand with is such a time as to be ready to be prepared, to have your loins girded, and to be able to live out a conviction that’s so easy and effortless to make only on a screen.

Read this over and over, along with the instructions that were also posted very recently.

The second reason is every bit as important.

Ms Jones does not necessarily identify as part of the cohort who will be most viscerally affected, yet here she is advancing this position.

This is also important, because it’s assumed that unless you have some sort of obvious skin in the game that it’s best to stay silent, to be on the sidelines, to hope for the best as a spectator.

The times that I have been effective I standing with cohorts not my own have been some of the most integral elements of my formation as an activist.

Being here at the border between San Diego and Tijuana marching for miles; standing with my brown sisters and brothers is such an important part of my Praxis.

And it needs to be part of yours as well.
