To be able to feature a courageous and engaging writer for the month of June *and* to wish her a Happy Birthday on this very day!

That’s quite a two-fer.

Jameelah Jones is a prolific and prophetic voice. She is a Founding community member here at Lace on Race, and we have been graced with her words ever since the we started Lace on Race last year. She cuts through the usual justice-speak and speaks with candor, knowledge, and deep heart.

Jameelah is our Featured Individual for June for all of these reasons and more.

I first met Jameelah at the Arise in Power conference in 2017, and was immediately impressed with her presence, her unwavering love for her people, and for risk taking in the name of that love. She has only grown since then.

She is a young woman, wise beyond her years, who I consider a mentor as well as a colleague. Her example informs my writing, I am more courageous, less hesitant than I once was, and I thank her for that example and that push.

That today is her birthday just makes this sweeter still; the icing on the cake!

When you are presented with the Ask this weekend, it should be an easy task for all of you to support her work and her voice.

We will be sharing her work with you throughout this month, so that you can fall in love with her spirit and her wisdom just as much as I have.

For now, though, let’s take the time to wish her a Happy Birthday! We are so lucky that you have chosen to walk with us.
