Hello all. We have been doing exciting things at Lace on Race, both here on the Page, and offline as well!

We have been engaging and bringing the message of LoR to other forums and pages, adding our singular voice and furthering dialog and conversation.

Offline, we have been connecting with people who align with us, and lending our voice and influence. Look for posts about an amazing coffee shop, Cafe X in San Diego, who is brewing resistance, and creating not gentrification, but actual revitalization, to a neighborhood it has chosen to serve. This is exciting, and is part of an overall move to both further community and create larger change. We have pics of the grand opening, where I was pleased to meet with the owners and share their vision and passion.

We also met with one of the rising stars of grass roots politics, a truly transformative woman, who has both the capacity and charge to change civic life in San Diego. When you see Monica Montgomery, you will love her every bit as much as I do.

Doing this work, sometimes plodding, but these days oh so exciting! is such a pleasure. Connecting with you all is also a joy. It is a point of pride that we answer every email and message. We want to be a resource, and we also want to be a community worthy of the name.

These nine months of walking together have been fruitful. And we are just beginning. As we head into this last month before midterms–and we are seeing just how important these midterms will be for the future, we will be bringing more coverage, more commentary, more analysis, both before during and after the elections.

Look for a post that will follow on the heels of this one that will be asking what is going on in your respective corners; are there initiatives that speak to equity? Issues that threaten it? Are there people doing best practices that can be replicated?

One thing that we know is that while electoral work is crucial, it is by itself insufficient. We need to be walking in the trenches of grassroots as well, because that is almost often where the initiatives regarding race are born, and then adopted by more ‘mainstream’ voices.

And we, during these times, need to cleave to and with each other. This is what community is about; what this place is for: being a safe and challenging space to grow and build and share. Together.

I had the privilege of delivering the message this morning at Vista La Mesa Church in, well, La Mesa, California today. The theme was racial reconciliation. It was well received. Every time we have the opportunity to take our message to the wider world, we take it! We need your help to do this. If there are people or organizations in your area that you feel would benefit from our message, let us know! We are available for speaking, writing, and trainings. We know that we are a resource that is saying and doing things no one else is in this arena. Have conviction, will travel.

As well, people have been asking for one on one coaching with me. Welp. After lots of thought, I am willing to take on a limited number of people who want to delve ever deeper in the areas of race, relational ethics and the resistance, issues, baggage and trauma that can stunt our growth and slow our walk. Feel free to inbox us or email us to talk about it!

Every month we are gaining new likes and follows; every month our reach is stronger, and our influence greater. We are so grateful for each of you. And we need you.

There was a call for a volunteer to help Lace and The Gaggle engage with you, our ever larger community. We still need that person, and we are confident that the right person will be here in our midst. Lace would love to speak to you, and to onboard the right person to carry this work with us. Inbox us here or at laceonrace@gmail.com.

Nine months in. We are just getting started.

Thank you all.
