Let’s talk about how we reinforce and collude in medical racism.
This is a big deal.
Hey ride or die 100%ers! Is this something you think about?
____
Hey UC San Diego Health!
Talking about how they serve *all* of San Diego, even as they practice medical redlining.
Their own map of locations embedded in the comments, which they’re so proud of show this very thing.
We know geographic barriers affect access and quality, and this kind of redlining, where medical systems are ‘afraid’ of and loathe to locate in reinforces institutions’ and individual medical professionals’ biases against those they ostensibly serve.
UC is not the the health care system in San Diego, or nationwide, that does this. So does Kaiser. And Sharp. And Scripps.
And I every other state, county, city.
Medical professionals, weigh in. What are your thoughts?
Consumers, what do you think?
*White consumers and professionals*, what are your musings?
Do you factor access for all when you make your choices? Do you insure your employer asks the right questions?
Or is this issue maddeningly like education, where we play lip service to equal access, but are complicit in systems like this?
