If there was any doubt about the efficacy and the influence of grassroots commentary, journalism, and activism, look no further than this race.
Pressley’s 18 point victory, coming from behind, evaporating a 13 point deficit to ultimately prevail over an entrenched incumbent is decisive, and will be case studied for decades.
Issues that have formerly been non-starters or lip service talking points; living wage, systemic oppression, environmental racism, educational disparities, law enforcement overreach–issues that those of us who consider ourselves to the left of Democratic Party platform, and especially praxis, have been hitting hard since even before the debacle of 2016.
This is no time to rest on our laurels. Winning a primary, or primaries, as has happened throughout the year is no guarantee of durable change and shift, but it is both heartening and galvanizing.
Lace on Race will be following both national as well as state and local races.
This is both a terrifying and and an exciting time.
Let’s all of us keep walking.
