Wow. On the page “Humans Of New York” there is a problematic thread about, wait for it–a deadbeat black man.

Make no mistake, our Lothario does not for sympathy make. What gave me great pause (and prompted me to write) was the glee thousands of white women (and yes, some women of color) are taking with their comments.

As I said, like we are learning here, it is entirely possible to hold multiple truths at once; in this case, that he’s a putz, but is not a stand in for every, or even most, black men, and that white women giving themselves dopamine rushes by trashing said singular black man is distasteful at best, and reinforcing of stereotypes at worst. For those who would like to read and (hopefully) comment, here is the thread:
