Hey everyone.

I am grateful that so many have responded to this space. I really hope it is a sustainable venture.

But for some reason right now, I am feeling some kind of way about all the flattery.

I don’t need the strokes. I need action, best practices, practical support, and reliable, sustainable community that functions well.

Gonna put a moratorium on likes and hearts and complements and emojis and stickers.

And a moratorium on the obvious. Yes, some posts are sad. Yes, they will give you the feels. Yes some posts activate you and remind you of what happened in to circa1986. But that sadness and activation needs to be honed and focused into action that will move the needle in discernable ways.

No, you don’t have to try to wrap anything up in a bow. You don’t have to say what you hope for in some nebulous future. If you aren’t sharing what you are doing, right here, right now to bring about the future you say you want, your words are less effective than they are self soothing. Feels are great. Reliable praxis is better.

I hope you like what you see here. Engage, please do, with the community members here. Find ways to take what you gleaned to your day to day life, and then come back here and tell us about it.

For as long as this space exists, a month, a year, longer, this is hopefully a collaboration. We need to act more like one.

I am going to be writing a series of posts. I hope you enjoy them, and can take something from them. But don’t just passively ‘like’. Reflect. Comment with something other than feels.

Say how it changed you. What you will do next. And how your actions and internal work can be replicated for the rest of us.

Do something, shift something, and then bring it back here.

This is not a theater. This is a laboratory.

Told you this would be something different than you are used to.

I wasn’t lying.

To keep this functioning, I need your tangible support. Enough so that I can give this the time, priority, and intellectual and emotional labor this beloved space deserves. I thank those who have joined with me. I need more of you. Please support the
work and mission and community–now over 700 strong–of Lace on Race.
